Studying MBBS is not so easy now days with heavy fees and also not knowing the time bound required for one to settle down in the field. However for all these doubts, one solution is to join in the Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC) in Pune. Anyone who can get a seat in this military college can complete their medical education free of cost. Right from books to clothes everything shall be taken care by the college. They also provide AC railway ticket for the students to visit their homes once in a year. Once the course is completed one is offered a job in army with a good designation.  

AFMC History

Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC) in Pune is one of the top most medical colleges in the country. This has been started in 1948 as an institution offering post graduation courses in medicine. In 1962, August 4th AFMC has also started graduation in medicine (MBBS) course to cater the needs of the armed forces medical services. This has been affiliated to the Maharashtra University of Medical Sciences, Nasik and has been recognized by the medical council of India.

Candidates who have done their MBBS from this AFMC are mandatory to work as commissioned officers in the armed forces. They also have to give a written bond obliging this rule at the time of their joining. As soon as the candidates complete their MBBS course half of them are given permanent commission and the rest are given short services commission jobs. Those who have joined in the course and would like to discontinue has to pay the total amount as indicated in the bond. Right now the bond amount is Rs 15 lakhs.

Eligibility for AFMC MBBS

Those who would like pursue their medical education in this institution have to qualify National Eligibility cum Entrance Test. They have to pass their 10+2 with English, physics, chemistry and biology as the main subjects. Apart from English the candidates should get at least 60% in all the group subjects and along with English the aggregate should not be less than 50%.

Every year there are 130 seats offered by AFMC in the MBBS course out of which 105 are reserved for boys and the remaining 25 for girls. In the overall seats again 10 seats are reserved for the SC and ST candidates.

Admission in AFMC MBBS

Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), Pune is inviting online applications through
www.afmcdg1d.gov.in and www.afmc.nic.in for MBBS Course commencing from 1st August, 2014. The admission for this course is done on the basis of AIPMT-2014.
